External intercostal membrane
External intercostal membrane |
|
Deep muscles of the chest and front of the arm, with the boundaries of the axilla. (External intercostal membrane is not labeled, but region is visible.) |
Latin |
membrana intercostalis externa |
Unlike the other two intercostal muscles, the external intercostal muscle does not retain its muscular character all the way to the sternum, and so the tissue in this location is called the external intercostal membrane.
